Exploring the Depths of Scuba Diving in Las Vegas: A Desert Diving Experience

When you think of Las Vegas, what comes to mind? The flashing lights of the Strip, world-class entertainment, and endless casinos are the usual suspects. But there’s something unexpected beneath the surface of this desert city—scuba diving. Yes, you read that right! Las Vegas is not just about high-rollers and spectacular shows. It offers unique and exciting scuba diving experiences, perfect for those looking to explore underwater worlds without leaving the desert.

Why Scuba Diving in Las Vegas?

Las Vegas might not have an ocean nearby, but it compensates with world-class indoor and outdoor diving opportunities. Whether you’re a novice diver or an advanced adventurer, Las Vegas has something for everyone, from purpose-built diving facilities to nearby natural bodies of water perfect for a day trip.

Dive Sites in Las Vegas

  1. Lake Mead: Scuba Diving in a National Recreation Area
About 30 minutes from the Strip lies Lake Mead, a vast reservoir created by the Hoover Dam. Lake Mead offers a wide range of dive sites with various depths, perfect for both beginners and experienced divers. Explore submerged planes, boats, and Hoover Dam history! The visibility may not be as clear as ocean diving, but the history and diversity of underwater landscapes make Lake Mead a fascinating dive location.

  2. Colorado River: Drift Diving below the Hoover Dam
Dive the Colorado River from both the Arizona and Nevada side. The river provides the clearest water in the region and also the coldest. In the summer months the water temperature will run in the mid 60’s and in the winter months low 50’s. You can expect many species of fish including the rare Razerback Sucker.
